The protobuf library we use is unmaintained. There are more up to date forks, though "up to date" in this case means 10 years, or with some forks of that fork 5 years.
The upstream protobuf compiler can generate Obj-C, so we are probably better off just integrating that into the build system.
Another obstacle is the fact that the project only contains generated code, but not the proto files used to generate it. So we need to either track down the correct version from the main Mumble repository or just go for a newer one and adjust the code accordingly.
