Could be done in a similar way as it was implemented with Talk: |
Mail to Deck would be used here as well. We don't use the Task app but find the Deck app more useful. |
It looks like this can be done but has a weird flow... Reply to Sender Only, then under Smart Picker, Create a New Deck Card. It would be nice to just be an option in the More Actions section while viewing the email in the reader pane. |
This should be already feasible, because in Mail it is possible to add events and tasks to calendars. Given that Deck creates calendars with boards, it should be possible to add a task to the calendar created by Deck and see it in the board. The problem is that calendars created by Deck are not visible in the dropdown for the "Add task" action: #9869 |
Deck calendars are read-only. This is not an option |
Are we meaning to say Deck Calendars? I thought we are talking about Deck Cards being generated from Email messages. If I go to reply to an email and select the Smart Picker, it would allow me to create a Deck Card from there. Unfortunately, Smart Picker does not stay open on my screen anymore... it flashes really quick but disappears or is hiding behind the screen now. However, it would be ideal to have the option of creating a deck card from the More Actions list on the individual Email menu. |
I understand mine was some sort of workaround, as you are looking for a tighter integration directly with the app.
Write access to Deck calendars is being tracked here: nextcloud/deck#2399 In this way my suggestion could become useful in the future, for Mail and maybe for other apps too, given that Deck would have a common ground shared with the entire Nextcloud environment. |
@ChristophWurst can you (or is it ok if I do this) change the title of this to "create Deck card from email"? Because the "send deck cards via email" part is already available via https://github.com/newroco/mail2deck and it is not planned to bring this into Deck, correct? Currently, you can convert an email into an event, and into a task (when this is fixed), but not into a Deck card. That would save a lot of time for users! duplicate: nextcloud/deck#2709 |
Also, I think that it can be done via Reply to Email, then Using a tool in
the Smart Picker to Create a Deck Card, however, one that is a weird step
or way to do that.

Would it be simpler to convert the mail into an .eml and attach it to the card? This would also allow pinning multiple mails to a card, as well as a "do task and reply to this message" workflow. |
This would not let you show in the Email app that there's a task related to the email, I suppose, unless you create some strange mode of reference. |
The reply + smart picket option just creates an empty deck card, which is not very useful. If it would prefill the subject+body in to Name and Description of the card it would already be a huge step. If that would be available via the List options for emails we would be good, as that functionality has enough for people to work with. |
Feature Request
Allow to convert an email in a Deck card (nextcloud Deck-app).
Summary
It would be great if an email could be converted as a deck card. The email title would be the default card title, the recipients would be the default persons tasked to the card, the mail body would become the card comment, and so on.
Sending Deck cards via email could also be useful (as for calendar invites), but this may not fall in the purview of the mail app.
