Unable to cancel build

I have confirmed that this is a bug related to nh

Description

Good morning.

I'm currently running nh os build .. After starting I noticed I've still got a dependency in my config requiring a lot of time to build. I don't need that dependency at the moment. To save that build-time I wanted to interrupt nh... and nothing happened.

How do I cancel nh?

In tech terms: nh should listen and react to signals, but it doesn't.

As in... pressing <Ctrl+C> to interrupt it? That does work, the Nix daemon just takes a bit to clean up a running build. Might that be the problem? Or are you trying to stop nh and nh keeps running and giving output?

Yup, as in Ctrl+c. It does not stop, at least for meIt did not stop. The build kept going on until the end. Some sequences (I think it was plain unicode-characters, like \uxxxx something) showed on screen but were cleared with the next status refresh.

Well, I just tried to reproduce it, and it exited immediately on Ctrl+c. Lovely...

If you're trying to reproduce it: I had

    # services.ollama.enable = true;
    # services.ollama.host = "0.0.0.0";
    # services.ollama.package = pkgs.ollama-cuda;
    # services.ollama.openFirewall = true;

in my config. It takes ~25 minutes to build on my machine, and I'm pretty sure I tried to stop nh while it was building cuda.

Enabling any NixOS services should not result in nh not being terminated by SIGINT. Are you by chance deploying over SSH?

No, local machine.

It's not about enabling services, it's the dependency of that service, cuda. Non-free, needs to be built locally. Just in case you needed something to build with a lot of cpu time in case you want to test this issue. Otherwise this issue can be closed. I'll try to reproduce this in 2 weeks and reopen this if it happens again.

Sorry, I'm completely unable to reproduce this issue. As it stands nh respects Ctrl+C under all conditions I've tested with, including SSH connections via remote deployment.

I'm going to test this again... I swear, I know what I've seen 😓

Almost 25 years now since I've started working with linux, I can blindly hit Ctrl+C in any situation and position ... I'll do a screen recording trying to reproduce this. Just in case.
