project-nvim is unmaintained

The project-nvim plugin has been unmaintained for 2 years. It throws deprecation warnings already and will inevitably break in the future.

There is a maintained fork at https://github.com/DrKJeff16/project.nvim but it's unpopular and maintained by a single person.

I think we should switch to the fork, but i'm not sure since it hasn't really caught on.

This is something that'd need to be done in nixpkgs, not nixvim. Either updating pkgs.vimPlugins.project-nvim's source, or creating a second package if there was value in having both packaged.

If the original truly is unmaintained and deprecated, then I don't see a reason to have both packaged.

If we instead wanted to deprecate and drop the plugin, that's something that should probably be done in both nixvim and nixpkgs.
