Is single version policy mandatory ?

how manage legacy app for example in react 16 with another app in react 18.

Should i use the root package.json for only current version and put all other dependencies that are legacy for my projet in projects package.json ?

And how to manage dependencies that are only used in one lib like video player for example ?
