As announced in the NuxtLabs blog post and Vercel's announcement, NuxtLabs is joining Vercel! 🎉 This is a big step forward for the Nuxt ecosystem and we're excited to be part of it.

Overview

As part of this transition, we're making Nuxt UI more accessible to everyone. In September, we'll release Nuxt UI v4: a free, open-source library that unifies Nuxt UI and Nuxt UI Pro, offering 100+ components and a complete free Figma Kit for everyone.

@ikxin Since Nuxt UI Pro is gonna be free within Nuxt UI v4, everyone will have access to the same features. However, we're still thinking of a way to reward/thank everyone who supported us by purchasing Nuxt UI Pro. The only idea at the moment is to give a badge on the Nuxt Discord server.

@benjamincanac first of all - thank you for the great news! and thank you (and the team) for creating a great UI library. Been enjoying the UI V3 in my personal projects 😊

Q: Are there plans to allow UI Pro V3 build without license while waiting for the transition to UI V4?

My plan was to build UI Pro V3 locally in the meantime then swap it to UI V4 when it is out. The license prevents me from building and deploying the app in nonprod environments since pipelines (e.g. GH Actions) requires the UI Pro V3 license to be setup.

P.S. This is just really a question and not a request 😅 since allowing a UI Pro V3 build without license might involve legal stuff and takes time from you guys building UI V4 .. If that is the case, I would just gladly wait for the UI V4 😊

Component unification ! And maybe some minor changes, but it will be much smoother than the v2 -> v3 transition

We haven't migrated from Nuxt UI Pro v2 yet and were planning to do it during the holidays. However, since v4 is coming in September, we're considering waiting to avoid two major migrations.
Is v4 expected to have as many breaking changes as v2→v3, or is it mainly about unifying the free and paid versions?

@DarioRega Since it's really early, I have no information to provide about the changes from v3 to v4. There might be some breaking changes to fit the UI Pro components into UI but we haven't started working on it yet. However, I'll make sure the migration from v3 to v4 is as smooth as possible and will be nothing like v2 to v3 (which was a complete rewrite).

@jcap97 Thanks for the kind words 😊 I don't have an answer yet to allow building Nuxt UI Pro v3 during this transition period. This does involves legal stuff so I'll get back to you as soon as possible!
