Shutting down Metrics Pipeline

Wanted to know how to cleanly shutdown Metrics Pipeline. We use an otlp grpc metric exporter. We only have normal counters.
I am unable to find the shutdown function. Its there in the sdk headers, but not part of the api headers, making me believe that we're not supposed to call the sdk headers directly. The examples also dont call it. Would just setting the meter provider with noop instance call the shutdown?
