Distance on trail features

I am adding canoe paths on rivers after seeing your State of the Map speech (watched the recording today). this is a great project. I have used the "Waymarked Trails" project previously (but they don't show paddle sports). What I like is that they show some of the meta data like route distance. I could add that in the description but then if the geometries change it would need updating. I would love if you could show the calculated distance from the geometry lengths.
