What country are you from? The KJV is currently restricted in certain areas as I work out the necessary license with the UK.

So yeah,

I'm sorry, but the KJV is Crown-Copyright, which means I can't rightly distribute it without permission. I am currently working with Cambridge on receiving this permission, but it would be unethical for me to allow its use within the app without it.

Unfortunately, that you can see it in order to download it is a problem -- I thought I had code to prevent that from happening. So, there is a bug there -- you shouldn't be able to download it in the first place. Whether or not I'll fix it or not depends on if I get permission to distribute before 1.4 gets released.

In the meantime, please accept my apology, and feel free to download any of the other material. If you have another rights-free translation you'd like added, please let me know, and I'll see what I can do.

Thanks for clarifying - do you have NIV or the living bible translations available?

I wish I could, but those are copyright by their respective owners. The NIV, at least, has pretty onerous licensing terms, starting at 10K (USD) up front and then a pretty hefty percentage of each sale. I don't have a problem with the per-sale percentage, but unless you have 10K, or someone donates it, I'm afraid there's nothing I can do about procuring the necessary license. Likewise, the Living Bible has pretty similar terms, and from my understanding tends more towards paraphrasing than word-for-word translation. [Not to say I don't like paraphrases, but I'm not sure they fit very well against the original language.]

The WEB version supplied is a modern version based upon the American Standard Version, which I urge you to try. Or if you have other versions that you use that are rights-free (public domain or otherwise released for free distribution), then I'd be happy to see what I can do about including them.

If I could include the NIV and NLT, I'd be happy to do so, but I can't do so without adequate funds. To include them without properly licensing them would, of course, defeat the whole purpose of the app. It is, to some degree, unfortunate that Christians have to worry about copyrights on Bibles, but it is an unfortunate by-product of the age, and we must abide by the rules.

Same problem here. I'm from Spain.

@jcesarmobile The KJV is still limited in the EU; I meant to disable this for 1.2, but for whatever reason, it didn't get enabled. 1.3 (or perhaps 1.2.1) will permit everyone in the EU (outside the UK) to download and use the KJV. Once I receive permission for the UK, the next version after will permit download in that region.

So, there's technically a bug: you shouldn't be able to download the KJV version yet for your region, but the app is enforcing the viewing of that version. Since you're part of the beta test, you should start to see some adjustments to this when you get your next beta build.

I've updated the KJV's description to the following, as others will undoubtedly have the same question:

Note: The KJV is Crown-Copyright and will not display in EU, even if you download it. There is a bug in 1.2 that permits the download of this particular Bible in regions where it cannot be viewed. The download will install, but you still won't be able to see it as installed. The next version of the app will provide viewing support in all areas outside the UK, but we are waiting on Cambridge for support for those users inside the UK.
