Loading chat takes really long due to extensive avatar fetching

when i open chats, it takes a prolonged period to load + send messages. i looked at the network tab and i saw that it was fetching every single past chat's avatar, and it halted everything until it finished fetched all of the avatars

using Firefox 153.0

@ppy/team-web maybe worth investigating with some priority. probably shouldn't be loading for off-screen avatars?

Already looking at replacing the style={ background-image: } with a proper img lazy load; just can't directly replace it in the component it's in since it's not a 1:1 layout change and effects everything else sharing UserAvatar

@apollo-dw Is it that you cant select and type things but the messages don't load or send until the images load, or can't do anything at all until they load?

@notbakaneko It's the former: my messages don't send and new messages don't load until all images are fetched. The messages POST request comes last after every image's request, and that's when functionality is restored.
