Session: Six and a half ridiculous things to do with Quarkus

Abstract: Let’s abuse the tools! Everyone knows Quarkus is computationally efficient, expressive, and rock-solid for production.
But did you know that we can use Quarkus efficiency to build applications that shouldn’t go anywhere near production?
In this demo-driven session, Holly will put the joy into “developer joy”. She’ll show you all sorts of things you can do
with Quarkus that you probably shouldn’t:

• Build an LLM-powered app that’s guaranteed to hallucinate, because you can do more than you think with guardrails, and truth is so boring
• Write your business code in rockstarlang, because everything should be a hair metal ballad
• Use Minecraft as your observability client, because the LGTM stack doesn’t have enough explosions
• Write a CLI for generating memes faster, because everything is better on the command-line
• Benchmark an application against a grapefruit, because metric units aren’t tasty

Business value? Learning? If you insist. As well as absurd demos, you’ll leave this session with a deeper understanding
of how to get the most out of Quarkus and Java. There will be new Java 25 language features, Quarkus best practices,
powerful integrations, and nifty use cases alongside the silly explosions and grapefruit.

In this session, we’ll introduce Quarkus in Action, the latest (and coincidentally, the first) book authored by the speaker. While we can’t cover the entire book in one talk, we’ll highlight our favorite features—the ones that truly showcase Quarkus' strengths. Expect live demos of productivity powerhouses like Dev Mode, continuous testing, Dev UI, and Dev Services. We’ll have something for you whether you’re focused on a blazing-fast local development experience, seamless deployment workflows, or even the metrics influencing your cloud bills.

This talk isn’t about explaining every Quarkus feature in detail—it’s about showing you why you should give it a try. And if we succeed in inspiring you, Quarkus in Action will be the perfect next step on your learning journey!

Session: Building secure AI agents with Quarkus LangChain4j

Abstract: In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn how to create and secure AI agents leveraging Quarkus LangChain4j. As AI agents are used more and more within enterprise applications, securing them has become a critical concern. You for example don't want your agent to drop your database, execute privileged actions or leak your sensitive customer data by accident.
Workshop participants will:

• Set up a Quarkus project with LangChain4j extension
• Build a basic AI agent that can interact with business applications
• Implement security measures to prevent prompt injection attacks
• Configure authentication and authorization for AI agent actions
• Structure the application for maintainability and security
• Add appropriate monitoring and audit logging

Each participant should bring their own laptop with JDK 21, Maven, Ollama and Podman Desktop installed. The workshop will include step-by-step instructions, code examples, and exercises to reinforce learning.
This workshop is suitable for developers new to AI and more experienced engineers who want to learn how to include and secure AI agents in their projects. Some basic knowledge of Java and Quarkus is helpful but not required.
