Bug: App wont work without Google Play Services installed

What happened?

My phone does not have Google Play Services installed for privacy reasons, the app will not allow me to open it for more than 10 seconds without changing to a "App will not work without Google Play Services installed" page. This makes the app unusable.

Is there any way to change this to a popup over the app that can be dismissed without closing it or making a non GSF/GPS reliant version?

What the use case of a bug tracker if the response is "dev/compile it yourself" 🤨

The minimum for an open source alternative is to be able to be installed in a real opensource OS 🤷

I can confirme the bug in my doogee s110 with Android 13 without google account

Unsure if this is related, but I'm getting a similar popup even though I have Play Services installed. The only difference is that I installed the Google Play version through the Aurora Store. I have no idea why that makes any difference.

I have the same problem (not seen, that this issue already exists). I'm using the Aurora Store with Google Play Services too, but have no Google Account logged in on my device. When I open Revolt, it redirects me to the Google Play Store, which enforces me to login with my Google account. :(

As a temporary workaround, I've installed Version 1003000 from the Aurora Store. In this Version, the issue does not exist.

Same issue here. I am using LineageOS 21 and just installed Revolt from Aurora Store. Why would they require Google Play Services for it?

Version 1003000(1.3.0) has no Google Play requirement as the comment above mine mentioned, so that one works flawless. Seems to be compatible with microG as Plexus says, but I don't want to install it either. I hope they fix this problem immediately.

I have talked to an android developer for an another app, that have the same problem. He will not fix it but we found the source of this problem (maybe). I have done some research and found out, that the apk integrity check needs to be done with Google's Integrity API which needs an functional Google Play Store.

Can someone from the developers of Revolt check if it was not implemented on version 1003000 and before? Maybe Google added this silently in the last time and activated it?

If it is the true source then someone must implement, that the app does the integrity check with an self owned server and does not rely on google if the issue should be fixed. :)
