[APP BUG]: shadPS4 can remain frozen after a fatal error instead of shutting down #4854

  • I am using an official build obtained from releases or updated one of those builds using its in-app updater.

Describe the Bug

When shadPS4 encounters a fatal error, for example an out of VRAM error, it can remain open and completely frozen instead of shutting down.

The game itself is no longer running properly, but the shadPS4 window stays open and Steam still considers the game to be running.

I noticed this mainly with VRAM allocation errors, but I think the same thing can happen with other fatal errors.

Reproduction Steps

  1. Start a game that can trigger an out of VRAM error.
  2. Let shadPS4 reach the VRAM allocation error.
  3. The emulator stops responding.
  4. The shadPS4 window remains open instead of closing.

Expected Behavior

After an unrecoverable error, shadPS4 should shut down cleanly instead of remaining frozen.

Ideally the fatal error should notify the main thread, stop the emulator and close the window so that Steam also sees the process as terminated.
