Clipo — a native Windows screenshot & screen recorder, built with Slint

Hi everyone! I built Clipo, a tray-resident screenshot + screen-recording app for Windows, and the whole UI is Slint. Sharing it here since this toolkit made it possible. 🙏

What it does

• Capture a region (live 4× magnifier + dimensions), full screen, or a specific window
• Record region/full screen with system audio + mic, 30/60 fps, and GIF export
• Annotation editor — arrows, shapes, text, numbered steps, blur/pixelate, crop, framing & background
• OCR (Windows.Media.Ocr), a history gallery, and optional bring-your-own-keys upload (R2 / S3)
• 12 languages, light/dark/system theme

The Slint side (what this community might find interesting)

• It started as a WebView app (one renderer per window → heavy on RAM). Rewriting the UI in Slint made it a single process with low idle memory.
• ~10 borderless, rounded, themed windows (tray menu, selection overlay, editor, viewer, settings…) all in one binary.
• i18n via Slint's bundled gettext translations (with_bundled_translations) — 12 languages switch at runtime.
• Release binary is ~9 MB (LTO + opt-level=s), GPU-rendered (femtovg).
• A few things I worked through with Slint: per-window centering at high DPI, a frameless drag loop, and laying out settings tabs so long translated strings wrap instead of clipping.
