Building TONG for the GP2X/Wiz is pretty simple, as long as you have the
GPH_SDK toolchain installed.
GNU/Linux:
http://dl.openhandhelds.org/cgi-bin/wiz.cgi?0,0,0,0,14,384
MS Windows:
http://dl.openhandhelds.org/cgi-bin/wiz.cgi?0,0,0,0,14,383
Its guide talks about CodeBlocks and other such nonsense, but you don't
need any of that, just the SDK is fine. There are other GP2X/Wiz
toolchains floating around too, I bet they'd work just as well with some
path changes. Contact me if you do this, I'd be happy to make it easier.
BUILDING TONG
-------------
* Modify 'Makefile'.
Around line 17 there's a section for GP2X. Point it to where your
GPH_SDK lives, and, if you're using another toolchain, probably the
paths that follow.
* Do a 'make gp2x'.
With any luck, tong.gpe will be generated, and you're almost home-free.
* Copy stuff to the device's NAND or an SD card
I suggest the following directory structure:
/game/
/game/tong.ini
/game/tong/
/game/tong/credits.txt (copy from CREDITS file)
/game/tong/tong.gpe
/game/tong/media/ (copy from media/gp2x)
If you set it up differently, either tweak tong.ini or just run TONG
from the launcher instead of the main game/SD menu.
ADDITIONAL NOTES
----------------
TONG runs best on a GP2X/Wiz with the help of an improved libSDL, as
the original has some diagonal tearing problems and is generally not as
optimized. You can grab it from:
http://dl.openhandhelds.org/cgi-bin/wiz.cgi?0,0,0,0,23,271
and copy it to:
/game/tong/libSDL-1.2.so.0
The rule graphics don't get themed in the GP2X build, not because it
takes any extra power (it certainly doesn't) but because I didn't
shrink the rule text and it overlaps the pieces. It would be easy
enough to build the graphic out of themed blocks as usual and then apply
just the rule text over it, but I'm lazy and have other games I'd rather
spend time hacking on. If you feel like fixing this or anything else,
I'll be more than happy to take your patches and graphics. :^)
