Add Rust support

What do you want to change?

Adding Rust support would be cool. Any plans for that? I found this project but I'm not sure if it's related.

We don't have bandwidth to add Rust support right now unfortunately. But codegen plugins are now stable enough to try writing one for Rust.

Both Python and Kotlin support has been migrated to plugins. This means that if someone would like to try their hand at Rust support, you aren't blocked getting your changes into the sqlc codebase. A community member just wrote a plugin for F# as well. For reference, there's a list of currently-supported language plugins here: https://docs.sqlc.dev/en/latest/reference/language-support.html

There is some documentation about authoring sqlc plugins as well, though it is sparse at the moment.

For those of you looking for something like sqlc in Rust, https://github.com/launchbadge/sqlx may be interesting. I can't vouch for it as I don't know Rust, but it looks interesting.

I use Sqlx in Rust but it doesn't generate code like SQLC. I'll try to make the plugin for SQLC.

There's Cornucopia for rust that takes a similar approach, but unfortunately, doesn't look like it's maintained.

Sqlx in rust takes a different approach by generating code at compile time with macros.
