I have some feedback from a customer for removing the heat sink (in this case to repaste it):
"Make it clear that the user needs to disconnect the fan at the connector highlighted in the attached image."
I had some follow up questions:
Was that cable in the way for removing the cooling system (heat sink and fans)?
Did it need to come off with the heat sink at the same time?
and they answered:
No the cable wasn't in the way of removing the fans. It is essential to remove the tape from that component on the MB before removing the heatsink. It's also important to reattach the tape when done so the cable stays in place.
That's a good question. I found it easiest to sort of hold the heat sink at an angle while I removed the connector with needle nose pliers. I guess it's a matter of choice. There is more room to remove/attach the connection with that fan body out of the way, but it's more precarious because you're holding the heatsink at the same time you are trying to remove/attach the connector. Zoom into the photo I sent for a close look.
