IMO this should be an optional deadline. A lot of hackathons allow team formation at any time throughout the weekend as long as there's still under x people.

Do hackathons allow team formation after hacking is done? That's why I think it should be required, not optional. Especially right before judging, I don't think it makes sense for participants to be able to still form teams after that point.

That's a good point. It could be required and then if someone doesn't want to use it, just set it to an arbitrary date after their hackathon.

My team uses Devpost for project submissions, so we just always look at the team members there.
