Deleted notes reappear

For the past few months, I've had an issue where I delete a note and a few seconds later, it appears in my nvALT again. At first I thought this was a problem with my Simplenote sync so I completely stopped syncing with Simplenote. Alas, the problem still happens!

If I change the note at all - one character, then I can delete it permanently. I am storing my notes as .txt in a Dropbox folder. 2013 MacBook Air running Big Sur.

I didn't see this issue previously mentioned - sorry if I missed something.
