Descriptive summary

In DAMS4 - we have the following browse by canned faceted search links in the navigation:

• Collection
• Creator
• Format
• Topic

Decision(s) needed:

• Given the transition to flat subject hierarchy, is there a change needed for what we're now calling "Topic"?
• Are there other facets that we should consider adding/removing from this list?

Rationale

Need to decide which facets we will present to users in dams5, and if any adjustments are needed.

Using the tracer object, it looks like we currently include these subjects in Browse by Topic:

• conference
• corporate name
• family name
• genre
• geographic
• personal name
• temporal
• topic

We DO NOT include these:

• common name
• cruise
• scientific name
• series

@mcritchlow This is something DMPS should discuss. Because of travel schedules, we don't have another meeting scheduled until September 20. Is that OK, or should I try to get the group together sooner?

@GregReser - I think that's probably fine. There's no critical path with this one, just something that occurred to me that we probably wanted to sort out sooner than later (launch of DAMS5).

Per https://github.com/ucsdlib/dams-metadata/issues/12 we may/will want to omit temporal from "Browse by Topic"
