Question: How to create a new toolbar command?

Hi!

I want to create a new toolbar item that wraps the current selection in ** (e.g. turns Test > **Test**) the idea is to make a markdown text toolbar :) it doesnt have to add format or anything, i just want the text :D

Have been checking the examples and trying a few ideas but havent been able to make it worked. I thought making a new mark extension, but i dont know how i would trigger it on click.

Ideas? thank you!
