The stress calculation for superconducting coils doesn't include the side case anyway. From an engineering point of view I don't see any particular need for a side case. |

In its current implementation for a resistive TF coil, the sides of the TF are just the WP insulation and their is no space left for a supportive case. Surely this should follow the same design as the superconducting TF coil?
I'm guessing that there is no side case as the resistive TF coil setup was originally that for a monolithic centrepost.
I have a feeling this will cause problems with stress models etc.
