And GNOME 3.26 will not even show them by default anymore. See: https://blogs.gnome.org/aday/2017/08/31/status-icons-and-gnome/

There are some migration guidelines, i.e. you can e.g. switch to a DBUS API, maybe as a "cloud provider"?

They are still deprecated, this does not change…
