ESP32-S3 R16 (16M PSRAM) Seems not supported.

I'm using ESP32-S3-WROOM-1-N16R16V with v7, i found the epaper cannot be render normally: the rendering is misaligned and has ghosting, while ESP32-S3-WROOM-1-N16R8 works fine.

I saw the datasheet of ESP32-S3-WROOM-1, the VDD_SPI of N16R16V is 1.8v, while the VDD_SPI of N16R8 is 3.3v. Is this the cause of the problem? And can epdiy v7 support N16R16V?

Hello Lanistor,
Yes it’s supported. I’ve tried a WROOM2 16 MB and works correctly. Same footprint, the voltages you don’t have to worry about at all, those are managed internally by the module and should be correct in any case.

Converting this into a discussion since it’s not a problem with epdiy.
Please post the model of display you are trying and also try with a known to work display.

@martinberlin The problematic version i'm using is ESP32-S3-WROOM-1-N16R16VA, here is it's behavior:

The version ESP32-S3-WROOM-1-N16R8 works fine.

And i just bought ESP32-S3-WROOM-2-N32R16, and then test it after received.

I suspect you are having another issue there that has nothing to do with PSRAM.
Please update this when you test the one I recommended.

sure but only thing that seems changed is external RAM. Also epdiy v7 specifies the MCU. Testing new ones is entirely to our own risk. I just tried that one since I was testing a panel that was not fitting in the RAM but it was just an experiment. And it works fine so all I can say is that it works with 16MB PSRAM

@martinberlin I saw epdiy-v7 using GPIO47 and GPIO48, these two IO's voltage were changed to 1.8v on ESP32-S3-WROOM-1-N16R16VA, so i thought this may cause this problem.

Yes that might very well be the reason. You will have to stick to WROOM2 that does not have this problem.
Or alternatively if you really want to use that specific MCU you need to move D15 and CKV to other free IOs. Also you could modify the design using a buffer IC that let’s pass 3V3 only when the pin is HIGH but that would be complicating your life with pain.
It’s not that epdiy does not support 16 MB, it’s that you didn’t read the datasheet appropriately before soldiering a MCU in your project. No worries we all did the same many times, nothing to be ashamed about, we are all experimenting stuff and that’s the cool thing of this project

@martinberlin I test new newest WROOM2, having the same problem, i saw the datasheet of WROOM2, it's IO48, IO47 is also seted to be 1.8v.

I change IO21 to CKV IO of epdiy, instead of IO48, it works fine.

Very strange I tried v7 "as is" just changing that MCU to that one and for me it worked without any issue. Just to make sure got those modules here
