This release has some major headline changes that are optional -- so, potential opportunities, but shouldn't be obstacles to the upgrade:

  • React 18
  • More development on RN's "New Architecture"
  • More development on Hermes

Other things highlighted in the blog post:

  • Hermes is now bundled with RN. They flag that this may require some steps in the upgrade -- but I expect that's all covered by our usual systematic upgrade process.
  • iOS min version bumped to 12.4. We currently have 12.1 but can cheerfully match that change.
  • "React Native now uses the latest status bar API from Android 11", linking to facebook/react-native@50c8e97 .
  • "Support for console.disableYellowBox has been dropped", linking to facebook/react-native@b633cc1 . We use that, but the reality is less alarming than the headline: there's a new API that subsumes it, so we need to migrate.

Changes I notice in the full changelog:

And that's all I see.
