Tutorial required tools

The following tools are required to run through the tutorial.

1. A web browser (e.g. Firefox, Chrome)

2. The IMOD software package, a set of image processing and visualization tools for microscopic data.

A. Click here for Windows installation instructions

B. For Mac:

  1. Download the appropriate installer from:
    http://bio3d.colorado.edu/imod/download.html#Latest-Mac

  2. Follow the installation instructions at:
    http://bio3d.colorado.edu/imod/doc/guide.html#InstallingMac

  3. Verify that you can open the IMOD GUI, 3dmod.

    Open the Terminal app. THis can be done by pressing both the 'command' key (it is left of space bar with ⌘ on it) and the space bar to open the 'Spotlight Search'.

    In the 'Spotlight Search' type terminal and hit enter/return

    Type 3dmod and hit enter. You should see a pop up similar to the figure below:

B. For Linux:

  1. Download the appropriate installer from:
    http://bio3d.colorado.edu/imod/download.html#Latest-Linux

  2. Follow the installation instructions at:
    http://bio3d.colorado.edu/imod/doc/guide.html#InstallingLinuxSGI

  3. Verify that you can open the IMOD GUI, 3dmod. Open a terminal and at the command line type 3dmod and hit enter. You should see a pop up similar to the figure below.
