The symbol set and attached code were developed by Dignitas in support of the DHS S&T Research Project entitled the Augmented Reality Sandtable (AReS). AReS is a distributed interactive visualization architecture enabling real-time collaboration, mission planning, rehearsal, command and control, training, and after-action review. The AReS consists of multiple modalities including a physical sandtable augmentation with mixed reality devices; mobile devices; floor projection with mixed reality for larger groups; and mixed reality and virtual reality head-mounted devices.
Figure 1. DHS S&T Augmented Reality Sandtable Through its contractor, the DHS S&T Modeling & Simulation Technology Center provided NAPSG Foundation with a set of symbols based on existing symbols in the NAPSG Library to make available for access by public safety organizations. The delivery included:- SVGs for each NAPSG Symbol (as of September 2021)
- Code to generate symbol for use in but not limited to AReS platforms
- Read Me file with instructions
- U.S. Border Patrol
- Federal Law Enforcement Training
- Public Safety Agencies
- Geospatial Practitioners
DHS S&T and NAPSG Foundation entered into a Cooperative Development Research Agreement (CRADA) to make the symbol set and tool broadly available to the community. NAPSG Foundation will be making updates to the symbols as errors are identified or newer or better quality symbols are developed. End-users are encouraged to communicate any errors or challenges they encounter.
NOTE: This is currently not a funded project. Updates and future releases, therefore, are not scheduled but will be completed as staff time allows
