1. Can I use VxM with a single GPU?

No. VxM architecture relies strictly on VFIO Passthrough, which demands exclusive hardware access. You need one GPU for the Host (Nitrux) and a secondary GPU for the Guest. Attempting to unbind your primary boot GPU while the session is active is not supported.

2. Why is my RAM usage so high when the VM is off?

If the VM crashed, hugepages might still be reserved. VxM attempts to restore original hugepage counts, but you can force a reset by rebooting or manually clearing /sys/kernel/mm/hugepages.

3. How do I release my mouse/keyboard from the VM?

Tap the R Ctrl key, then the L Ctrl key in a sequence.

4. Can I use Looking Glass?

Yes. VxM automatically creates the shared memory file with a default size of 128 MB (sufficient for 4K resolutions). You just need to run the Looking Glass client on the host.

Note

The Looking Glass client that runs inside the VM to capture the screen is officially supported only on Windows.

5. Where is the virtual disk located?

By default, the main disk is at ~/VxM/images/guest.img. The directory structure is created automatically during the first run.

6. Does Windows 11 work?

Yes. VxM automatically initializes a software TPM (swtpm) on a UNIX socket and configures QEMU with the necessary OVMF Secure Boot firmware found on your system.

7. How do I install network and storage drivers during Windows installation?

VxM mounts the virtio-win.iso automatically. You must load the drivers from this ISO during the Windows setup process to see the virtual disk and network adapter.

8. How do I reset VxM?

You can run the reset command or manually delete the ~/VxM directory. Note that vxm reset removes all disks, ISOs, and configuration files.

9. Do the NVIDIA drivers work with VxM in Windows?

Yes. The NVIDIA Windows drivers are fully installable and functional when Windows is a Guest OS.
