VPForce Joystick with 86BLF03 or 86BLF04 motors

See originial Gadroc design for credits and design change history. This version is modified to fit the larger motors using the same gimbal and many of the same other parts. Panels are not interchangeable due to the larger motor size. Panels should be able to be printed on any 3D printer with a bed size equivalent to an Ender3 or larger.

I've not included a gimbal to remove some confusion around assembly based on some questions I've received. I recommend printing the Protomaker gimbal (linked below) and following the assembly steps there. Any of the gimbals will work with this project (Protomaker, Gadroc, mrusk, mabo, etc). The BOM has been cross referenced with the Protomaker Gimbal and should be mostly complete for these panels and that Gimbal.

You will also need to purchase a 2x86BLF03 + USBkit or a 2x86BLF04 + USBkit from VPForce. The 86BLF04 will be the strongest option but either of them will fit this case.

There are two options for gear ratios, you need to chose the one you would like below and buy the appropriate size belts. 60T/15T will be 1.7x the standard Rhino peak torque, 72T/15T will be 2.0x the standard Rhino peak torque.

Credits

Original authors are listed below:

  • walmis - Electronics, firmware, and original base design.
  • mabo - Expanded base design, including full gimbal.
  • protomaker - Modification for 3D printing and refinements
  • Gadroc - Basis for modifications

To be done:

  • 15 deg throw limiter in CAD file is optional. Export STLs if you want it or create a different throw limiter using the tool on the VPF discord. VPF parametric limiter requires slight modification, fix TBD
  • Boot clamp has not been tested yet. Design changes may be necessary. (No change from Gadroc, removed STLs but it is in the CAD file)
  • Add CAD step files.

CAD

Fusion file only in CAD folder for now, step files TBD. 57 Series also included as reference in a sub folder.

Printed Parts

All STLs should be checked for best orientation in the slicer to minimize supports. Placing the long edge of the case plates in the X direction worked best for my set up. I printed all my parts in eSUN PLA+ with a 0.6mm nozzle, 0.3mm layer height. Adapt as necessary to your printer and filament.

Necessary Parts for all Gimbal Types, Print these then choose a Gear Ratio to print.

BOM

Reference Protomaker BOM and assembly instructions for additional information on part usage. BOM updated from Protomaker's where known to be different. (Belts, pulleys, motor mounting screws are correct for 86 Motors). Due to bulk quantities from Amazon links you may end up with hardware left over, organize them and save them for your next project!

Assembly

Since this is a very close derivative of protmakers work his assembly guide should be enough to figure out how to build using these parts.
