Issues discovered while testing content dashboard

I tried to test the app by setting some values in the frontend but ran into some background save issues traced back to validate being set to true.

1. It treated every field as required, even though the yaml sets most to not required.
2. Dropdown-type field failed no matter what value I put in. I switched the field from type: select to type: text instead, and it works fine now.
3. I tried saving a new record, since the app uses update I thought it would insert if it didn't exist. Nothing was saved but also no error message was given. I updated to "create" and it worked.

NOTES: This is probably a combination of issues. The dataset schema validation may be happening before the complex object is decoded and transformed. It can also be a bug in how I am handling fall backs. If a type select is used and multiple selection is possible that needs to be attached the record as an list object of selected values. Validation would need to be performed as a list of individually valid objects.

The failure of validation needs to be visible to the submitting function, this might now be getting passed back to the browser properly and with enough context to be useful.

The client code has two ways of operating with Datasetd web service. One is a very REST oriented approach (mapping of HTTP methods to CRUD operations) the other is a simplified approach acknowledging the limitation of basic web form processing. I need to make sure I am covering the edge cases between these two approach and am providing enough data in the server response to be useful. In the documentation I need to clear about supporting both REST interaction as well as simple web form interaction (which may or may not request JavaScript processing).

For simple web form interaction I need to make sure there is sufficient information in the schema to know when a field received as plain text holding a JSON, YAML or CSV object needs to be decoded before merging into the object representing the record being submitted and when it should treat plain text of a textarea element as just plain text.
