Air Quality (WP12)

1. Which applications/models are planned to get into operation in Phase 2

• Installation of the 7 air quality models and respective Pre- and Post-processors on LUMI:
  • Step 1: setup and operation (end to end) of the air quality impact model for the Benelux domain domain and the Central Europe domain from Phase 1. The whole processing chain (with 1 km emissions data received from task 1.1) can be triggered manually.
  • Step 2: Setup to run our processing chain for selected sub domains over whole EU on demand
• Coordinated exercises for selected and episodes with the other WPs to run the DT chain (manually triggering)

2. Status: ready to go, under development

Migration to LUMI is currently on-going for the 7 air quality models

3. Targeted platform (HPC needed?, EWC?)

4. Input needs, where to access to NWP data

LUMI – AQ-models need access to the NWP data. Concept of directory structure is drafted. AQ-models will also make use of ecflow.

5. Expected output, we need to sort out the format management

Our output (ensemble of 7 AQ - models) will be provided in NetCDF and furthermore converted to grib2 (interface not ready yet).

6. What is the timeline? Milestones events?

• Quasi-operational setup (step 1) end of January for the two pilot areas (Benelux and central EU from phase 1).
• Quasi operational setup (step 2) for EU until end of the project.
