The methods renamed are intended to be internal, they've only been exposed to support the unit testing with mockito.
I've renamed the connect methods too for consistency even though those clients don't actually have support for auth tokens and still only support signed requests - when that support does get added in, the methods will already have the correct name 🤷♂️ .
