Local-stage copy of sandydasari#101.
This PR carries the same changes and targets the fork's local-stage branch for staged integration.
Integration note: this staging copy resolves the sandydasari#99/sandydasari#101 overlap by keeping async process-run completion support, stable WORKSPACE_HOME/AGENT_HOME injection, and shell executable resolution together.
