The env variables set for the build presets seem to not be used, since most paths are fixed during the configure step. This is the reason it works with the default build presets of the IDEs, at least using Visual Studio Code.
For safety, the new recommendation is to explicitly also select the build preset of the same name as the configuration preset in the IDEs.
