TRNSYS Type 8505 – Transcritical CO₂ Heat Pump Model

Overview

TRNSYS Type 8505 models the energy flows of a transcritical CO₂ heat pump capable of delivering high temperatures (up to approximately 140 °C).

The compressor performance is calculated using regression models based on the EN12900 and ARI 540 standards. The compressor motor frequency is variable, allowing flexible operation.

Control of the system is achieved by specifying:

  • Compressor frequency
  • High-pressure side CO₂ pressure

System Description

The model consists of:

  • Three gas coolers (high-pressure side)
    → dissipate heat

  • One evaporator (low-pressure side)
    → absorbs low-temperature heat

Simulation Outputs

The simulation provides the following results:

  • Electrical power consumption of the compressor
  • Heat transfer in:
    • Gas coolers
    • Evaporator
  • Outlet temperatures of all heat exchangers

For more detailed information, refer to the official documentation of Type 8505.
