That PR needs some work, so taking this out, as it seems like a no-brainer and doesn't belong there. This makes it a bit easier to maintain/edit that branch.
This is a rebased version of #700 which was closed after a comment.
However, it turns out that the name stems from the version the format got introduced, not some old format.
