Frequently Asked Questions
This page documents frequently asked questions and common problems with NFSCO and Need for Speed: Carbon.
Important
If you do not have a NFSCO installation yet, read the installation guide here.
Some anti-virus vendors may detect NFSCO as malware and there is nothing that can be done about this. You must temporarily turn off your anti-virus and add an exception for your installation directory.

Ensure your controller is plugged in before running the game, as there is no runtime controller detection.
Due to the way the game works, aliases from the original or modified copies of the game will not work on NFSCO. You will need to create a new alias.
On Windows, the aliases directory is %USERPROFILE%/Saved Games/NFSCO/aliases
. You can copy this directory, press Windows + R, paste the directory and select OK to open it.
The movie player is known to soft-lock the game. Usually when this is about to happen, the movie will not have any audio. You can disable movies by editing the registry.json settings file.
From the Main Menu screen, enter the Online screen. Enter your name, the server's address, and select Connect. You can find the addresses of all official servers on the right side of the screen.
Ensure your game is updated and that your name does not start with a space.
To free roam with other players, enter the Career screen from the Main Menu, select Resume Career, then select Free Roam. You will enter free roam with your current Career vehicle. Ensure you have completed the Career tutorial offline before entering free roam online.

All content in the game can be unlocked by progressing through the game. Content can be unlocked through Career, Challenge Series, and Reward Cards. To find where specific content unlocks, check in-game.

This system is temporary and will be replaced with a more vanilla-like system in the future.
Once you are connected to a server, open the chat by pressing T. Enter the /search
command alongside a keyword to find a race ID. For example, /search Lofty
.
Once you have a race ID, use /race
with the race ID to open a race. For example, /race tn.2.4
. You are now hosting a race and other players can join it using /join
and the number displayed in the chat. For example, /join 5
would join race number 5.
Once you are ready to begin, enter the /start
command and stay on the Main Menu screen.
Canyon duels, pursuit tags, and pursuit knockouts are currently not supported online.
