Crucible Usage Guide
Once your crucible is built, it's time to start melting, alloying, and processing materials. This guide covers all aspects of crucible operation.
- Add Fuel: Place fuel in Crucible Burners or fill Crucible Tanks with lava
- Add Materials: Throw items into the crucible controller or into the top of the crucible
- Watch the Smelting: Watch the items smelt down
- Pour the fluids: Pout out your molten goodies into casts
Crucible controller interface showing heat level and fluid contents
Each recipe requires a specific heat level to process. Any additional heat above that will increase the speed of smelting.
Some smelting recipes produce byproducts:
- These replace the input item in the crucible
- They can be extracted via the controller using any piping system or hoppers
Alloying combines different fluids, such as molten metals, to create new materials. This happens automatically when compatible fluids are present in the crucible at sufficient heat.
Entities (mobs, animals, players) that fall into the crucible will take small amounts of damage over time. Some entities are able to produce resources when they take damage this way. For example (by default) an Iron Golem will produce a nugget of iron each time it takes damage in the crucible.
Requirements:
- Entity must be inside the crucdible
- Sufficient heat for the entity type
- Some recipes require existing fluid in the crucible
Methods to remove fluids:
- Crucible Drains: Connect pipes or fluid containers
- Crucible Faucets: Automatically pour into containers below
- Buckets: Manually extract from the drain with empty buckets
