MeetingIdeas
Short (15 minutes tops) presentations that members give about technology they are interested in. Make a sign-up form at the beginning of each semester, and ask members individually to give talks about 2-4 weeks before you want them to give it.
Interactive and hands-on activities for members to learn about something they might not know about. We’ve done workshops on Arduinos, Raspberry Pi’s, various algorithms, and to get ready for hackathons.
We have a GitHub repository with Arduino activities, tutorials, and code (https://github.com/unoacm/Arduino-Workshop).
We have a few Github repositories with RPi activities, tutorials, and code (https://github.com/unoacm/pi-day-2020).
Speakers from the Software Development industry give a talk about something they find interesting or useful. Typically, guest speakers provide food and swag for students. These act as a good opportunity for those looking for jobs to get one.
Unstructured activities that are somewhat spontaneous based around what members want to do, and then everyone splits up into small groups to do it. Needs a lot more thought and planning put into this to get it to work.
One person codes a small application at the front on the board, explaining how everything works while everyone codes along with them. This might work better in small groups.
An officer gives a short 10-30 min talk about what the technology, and gives some resources for everyone to learn more. Then members can spend the rest of the time working on something with it.
